Leaky radiators can be a serious problem. If you do not keep topping off the coolant in you car's radiator, you risk overheating problems. Having to add coolant more than twice a year most likely indicates a leak, consider having the radiator professionally inspected by an auto mechanic.

The easiest way to find a leak is to trace the path of the wetness. A wet patch on part of a cooling core means that one of the cores is damaged, but maybe on the interior. If you cannot immediately locate the leak in your car's radiator, you may want to take it to a mechanic and have it tested for leaks.

A car radiator is a relatively fragile piece of automotive equipment. The cooling cores, the grate of thin metal strips are made of very thin metal. Anything that hits or corrodes the core can easily puncture it and cause a leak.

There is almost no way to permanently repair a damaged core without degrading your car radiators performance.

Other cooling system leaks can come from a damaged hose or faulty connection to the radiator or engine. This kind of leaking radiator is often easy to fix by simply replacing the hose or repairing the connection.

You will also need to check for cracks or holes in the coolant overflow tank on the top and sides of the radiator. If you have a plastic overflow tank, this kind type of leaking radiator can sometimes be repaired with epoxy or resin sealant. With metal tanks, patching a hole is much more difficult and repair costs are often, with most radiators, more than the replacement cost for the entire unit.

Another tip is to observe the temperature of the engine. If there is a frequent rise in temperature unlike before, it could mean that something is wrong with the radiator and it is not working properly.
